  the facts

Experience Expanded has caused some discussions among Prodigy fans lately, no surprise, as it is the first official 'new' release by the band for a whole while. There is not that much to get excited about though, all tracks on the double album have previously been released.

Thanks to Damon Fadjo here the scans from the forthcoming album (click on the thumbnail to see full-size):

Damon also says about the CD that "The inside has the same credits as Experience, except this also says "REMASTERED BY MIKE MARSH AT THE EXCHANGE - APRIL 2001"

The tracklisting of the CD 2 Expanded "remixes and b sides" (also thanks to Damon Fadjo):

-Your Love
-Ruff In The Jungle Bizness (Uplifting Vibes Mix)
-Charly (Alley Cat Mix)
-Fire (Edit)
-We Are The Ruffest
-Weather Experience (Top Buzz Remix)
-Wind It Up (Rewound)
-G-Force (Energy Flow)
-Crazy Man
-Out Of Space (Techno Underworld Remix)
-Everybody In The Place (Fairground Remix)

WCD 1 will contain the regular tracklist from 'The Prodigy Experience' as released in 1992.

I've received some e-mails of opinions about this re-release. Many people seem to be quite enraged about the fact that Prodigy seem to cover the lack of new material with a re-release of old stuff. And although I think its in a way pretty sad, too, you gotta remember that this sort of stuff is mostly just down to the record company and not the band themselves.

  fan opinions

Here some fan opinions about Experoience Expanded that I have received by e-mail:

Kimmo Karonen:
All I can say is that if taht really is the tracklist for the CD 2 - Prodigy are ripping off fans! man, that's just weak. add some pathetic b-sides for the second CD. that ain't raw or real. that's too commercial - I could expect Backstreet Boys doing that but the Prodigy... they are in serious trouble. are they having lack of ideas for Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned? let's hope not.

Ashley Kanter:
How many live tracks are there that the fans love but that Liam refuses to release because of concerns regarding quality. Personally I think its got more to do with the record company than him. If you look at the track listing for the second CD, it's all tracks that they have a right to release anyway. I personally would've also preferred maybe some of the more jilted era live tracks ("rock and roll", the live version of "their law","we do what the fuck what we want","acid break" etc.) Obviously not live, since Liam himself said he despises live albums. And I think the fact that these tracks have very little to do with what the prodigy are about these days proves that the release wasnt prompted by Liam himself. maybe someone could find out what he has to say. I mean ever since the prodigy made it big the press has been out to get them, how can , we the fans turn on them as well? Anyway even if it is some money making scheme who are we to judge, like they say "we do what the fuck we want"

Christoph Hars:
It should not be forgotten that for someone who does not have a copy of the first album or any of the older singles it is a real bargain. Instead of buying the album and the whole lot of singles you just buy one double pack. In my opinion the single version of your love is quite superior to the version on the album release and other remixes are great as well...
On the other hand it is of course quite sad that no real rare tracks are put on the cd- for example what evil lurks .

Sam Tischler:
I think that the prodigy re-releasing there first cd is just leading up to a better 'Always out numbered, never out gunned' I think that liam felt bad for not at least putting something out he just decided to do that. Also this could be another excuse so he could work on the new cd even more and make it much better. I'm also hoping that liam will be release cds like this for each of the cds (espeacially jilted generation) because it might include the orginal full lenght cut of The Heat (The engery). well in brief everyone should buy this and keeping looking forward to big prodigy news in the near future.

SmAck:
Well,i think that the CD is going to be released to get the "acid house" stone rollin' again.Liam said once in an interview that it would be cool,
if the ol' Dance scene would come back to life. So?who knows?
Maybe they just having a try to start everything all over again?Let's hope!

Rocketeer:
hi there i just seen this in your site i thought the hole thing bout this prodigy release was OLDER TRACKS FROM WHEN THE BAND STARTED NO CHANCE NOT BEING BIGHEAD OR NOTHING IVE HAD THESE TRACKS A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO THANKS TO N*****R HEHEHEHE AND THEY ARE ALL GOOD THE NEXT TIME LIAM WANTS TO BRING OUT A PRODIGY ALBUM SOME ONE TELL THAT I WANT THE TRACKS FROM YEARS AGO LIKE THE SOUNDS OF THE PRODIGY UNAUTHORISED THANKS IF THEY DONE THEM .

'The KLF 23':
It's funny that nobody noticed, but this year is Prodigy's anniversary (1991 - 2001; 10 years of Prodigy). Maybe Liam DID wanted to put up all these (very) old stuff, after all. But, on the other hand, it's strange that there's no "What evil lurks" on it, since it was their first single (1991). Personally, I won't bother to go out and buy it, because I've got all the tracks, except the Techno Underworld remix of "Out of space", so buying two CD's just for that would be a complete waste of money. I hope that this re-release wasn't Liam saying: "Oh, sorry, nothing new for this year, but I'll give you something to play with in meantime". I trust the man, and I hope he won't fail to satisfy us with new material soon.

from 'Painkilla':
"Okay, assuming this Experience Expanded is really their next and
assuming this will be in fact their first album including another CD...
Fuck'em if they do that! That doesn't sound like The Prodigy. I bet
they'd lose a lot of fans (including myself) if they'd do something as
cheesy as that...
I'd be stupid if I wouldn't buy that album just for the new tracks,
though..."

Fordy:
I'm not sure what the fuss is about. So prodigy are re-
releasing an old album, so what! For hardcore fans like
myself who have been with Liam since the biggining
then it seems a little pointless. We probably own all the
records and mixes which are not very difficult to get hold
of. I have orginal copies of every UK release including
the "What Evil Lurks EP"

However, for more recent fans who don't have some of
the older stuff then this is as good as way as any to get
hold of it without have to shell out money on the
singles.
Another thing to consider is the fact that this is an
American album. The decision has probably been taken
by the record label that owns the rights in America to
put out a compilation where the singles are not readily
available. Liam has probably had no say in it anyway!
Its very frustrating that we haven't seen anything from
the Prodigy stable for a while, but at the end of the day
it doesn't really matter that a complitation album is
being realeased, the more fans the better. It not worth
getting worked up about!

Craig Clarke:
"What the hell is Liam up to? He always used to state that he would never go
back and release old material!!! Even as exciting as it maybe to have this
new album I know that Liam will loose a lot of his respect that he has earnt
throughout the years.
Re-release of 'Experience' what next? 'Music for the even more jilted
Generation'
?"

veljko:
"it is gonna be nothing. i don't believe in that shit.
prodigy isn't so comersialised."
"If they do that i am not a prodigy fan any more.
I'll fell like i'm betraid from the band.
We don't deserve that after all this years of waitning.
Please don't do that liam."

Emlyn Cardiff:
This is just a little note to all the doubters out there.Has Liam sold
out & did he lie?I think not.Four years ago most of you people were
shocked and disappointed when Liam revealed there would'nt be another
Prodigy album but here we are today eagerly awaiting AONO.So why should
Expanded be any different Liam is just being Liam, doing what the fuck he
likes. He's known for constantly changing his mind. You people did'nt call
him a sellout when he announced a fourth album even though he said he'd
never do another Prodigy album most of you were probably very pleased
like myself.Expanded is also more aimed at the American marked so should
be seen as an exception. You people should let his track record do the
talking and lay off him because he'll deliver the goods and make shit
off all your comments and wo'nt you feel stupid then.Keep the faith
people..........

From 'Swooby':
"I think this Prodigy : Experience Expanded thing is just a fake...or kind of a money making shit ....I m a Prodigy fan since the beginning and i cant imagine that they re-realize their first album ...i hope not...:-)"

From 'Brandon from Miami':
"When I first read about it in your web site I was both excited and
disappointed at the same time. The reason I was a bit disappointed was cause
the experience album is so distant from what Liam is doing now, that it's
almost as if your listening to someone else. His infusion of rock and vocals
have propelled his tracks to a new dimension. The original experience album
lacked singing vocals and really didn't have any rock elements. It just
wasn't as good as The Fat Of The Land album was. Don't get me wrong but
Experience was still great but for that time. Especially the out of
space-remix and Charly !! There's no doubt that I'm gonna run to the store to
get it, for starters I love Prodigy to the extreme. But, I would have wished
that Jilted Generation would have gotten the expanded treatment rather than
Experience. That album wasn't as far in material and really buzzed better...
But I'll take what I can take... Anything that is Prodigy is great with me.
Outgunned never outcoming ?
I also believe that Experience is being released just to put something
out, keeping the fans busy with some Prodigy remixes and perhaps a rare
collectible with the Expanded album, till the new album hits... But it does
show how long outnumbered really is from it's release. I can't help but
wonder if Outgunned will be delayed till November of 2001 ??? I know that
Liam is kinda a perfectionist and he won't put finality on the album till
it's perfect, but you got to admit it's taken a long time...
In Summary, I will surely be picking up the Expanded album to hold me
over till outgunned gets released, but I'm sure ready for something new from
"Liam" and the Prodigy."

Corrado from Italy:
"I think (better: I HOPE) prodigy will release two albums, a cover of experience and their really fourth album always outnumbered never outgunned.
i love prodigy and in the event of expanded cd as fourth album i hope will not establish the end of prodigy
"

Paul Mittas:
"look!!! We all know that Liam is a musical phenomenon.
That's a fact. Well if he just want;s to 'cover' the lack of new material, it;s ok because that means he shows respect to the prodigy fans and he doesn't want to keep them waiting.
Another option is that if somehow Liam's expresion in music guided him in making something from the past to bring it here to our and his present.Imagine if he went to the past and same time move on to the future. OOOOOOR! it can be just some tracs from different places - lives - or a cd-rom.
That's sound's cool too AND YOU KNOW WHAT? I PERSONALY DON'T GIVE A FUCK NO MATTER HOW LONG THE NEW ALBUM WILL TAKE CAUSE THE DAY IT WILL BE IN MY HANDS IT WILL SURE WORTH ALL OF OUR SUCRIFISES IN ORDER TO KEPT US WAITING ''PRODIGY I LOVE YOU'' I UNDERSAND YOU. ''''IT'S NATURAL TO TAKE SO LONG FOR NA ALBUM LIAM CAUSE YOU CREATE BEASTS'''''''' KEEP THE FAITH "
