Friday, October 7th, Belgrade, Serbia

When about 2 months ago I learned that Prodigy are going to play Belgrade I got pretty excited since I heard so many good things about the place. Some of my mates were over there for new years and some were even at the most recent European basketball championship and everyone was buzzing about how nice people are there and how fit the birds are!!! So after quite a few 'meetings (piss ups)' I had with my friends to talk about details of the whole trip we decided to go to Belgrade for the whole weekend.

VERY early friday morning comes and after about 5 hours of sleep and just about the same amount of beers the night before I have to get up and pick up my friends. As some of them are quite an early starters they start downing beers as soon as the stores open! Since the whole trip was about 6 hours long you can imagine how many stops we had to make so they could empty their small bladders haha. We got there at lunchtime but there was no time for that, so we decided to go check the place out and have few beers. The sun was shining, weather was warm (a bit windy) and girls were everywhere! Everything was set for a perfect evening! After a few slices of pizza we decided to return to the hotel and have some rest before the gig but no, one of my friends decided it was a good idea to open a bottle of whiskey.

After downing some more alcohol we finally got ready for the gig, and while waiting for taxi we decided to buy more redbulls and while doing that an old lady told us we better hurry up if we wanted to catch the prodigy gig haha! After we finally got to the venue I still thought it was a good idea to have some redbull vodkas (neko's syndrome?!?!).

When the first warm up act (mistake mistake) started their set we were next to the bar and drinking what was a pretty much cheap red bull vodka. 2 tunes into their set I realized they were actually really good so I started moving towards the front. Some of you Serbian fans better get me some of their music! Anyways the second band comes on and they were pretty shite. I believe I even heard them play RATM track and some other bad covers. At one point their guitarist started playing 'Breathe' riff and that got the crowd excited a bit. At this point I decided it was good time to have a pee in back where the portaloos were. Was hard to do that while some young girls were knocking on the door all the time haha. Anyways just when I was finished primal scream track came on and I got pretty excited and txted neko got a pretty much unreadable txt back 2min later!!! Bad neko bad! Haha.

After 4 or 5 primal scream tracks the curtains fell down and everyone was cheering as the 'new intro' started playing. The boys took their places and the first riffs from 'Wake Up Call' kicked in. Everyone got pretty mental but chilled out slowly towards the end of the tune. At this point I was still about 30 meters back and I thought the sound system wasn't loud enuff. 'Wake The Fuk Up' went down really good even tho it is one of them new tunes. 'No Good fill' comes next and it always reminds me of the Depeche Mode's 'Everything Counts (live 101 version)' where people just don't stop singing it even tho the actual tune is over! This is where I decided to start moving toward the first rows. That was hard to do at that moment since the crowd rocker 'Their Law' just kicked in.

'Hotride' is on next and it sounds excellent. Am not really a fan of that tune but it was really good live this time! Keith stays on stage and 'Breathe' is on next. Needless to say everyone got mental and I noticed a mosh pit at the front. After that came on a 'new fill' with Maxim telling people something like We're all gonna take a journey now, come on we're gonna take this flight. I pretty much realized 'Spitfire' is next. This tune is massive, everyone is jumping, Maxim is kicking high up in the air and Liam is posing with both fists up in the air. Next is 'Back 2 School'. I was soooo looking forward to this tune but as I said earlier the gig just wasn't loud enuff, so I was a bit dissapointed, but nevertheless this track is great. Soon after the 'Firestarter 05' kicks in and everyone goes mad again but like neko and des said in their reviews people get confused a bit when the new bits come in.

While 'Firestarter' is slowly fading into 'Action Radar link' the music cuts out. I am not really sure who's fault that was, but Liam is back at the control soon enuff and they continue with the link. I am really tired after few full on tracks and I am hoping for a breather but no - 'Warning' intro starts and soon those mental and furious sounds come in followed by them beats it is great! Looks like I am the only one that knows the lyrics to this track but everyone is jumping as if this was their last single. A really long 'Climbatize link' follows and everyone is gasping for air at this point. This link isn't really like the last 'Climbatize' link they played years ago but it is darker and features some hard drumming by Kieron. Well that is at least how I remember it. As we're all in urgent need of that pause before the encore I wonder what the last track of the first part of the gig is.

'Mindfields' melody comes on next and everyone is moving again. The tune ends and I am expecting them to walk off stage but no! Rob comes on and you can hear 'Voodoo People' riff! The tune goes down very good as always and they FINALLY walked off stage after it finished. I try to get some oxygen for the usual last 3 (!) tracks. Everyone starts calling for them to come back, and that is just what they do after a minute or so. Liam starts playing those 'kung fu' samples that he has loaded on his sampler while Maxim is asking Belgrade if they are ready gor more. 'Poison' kicks in and as usual Maxim is great on it. It is my favorite Prodge tune at the moment! This leads into 'Method Beat' and Maxim takes time to teach us how to spell P.O.I.S.O.N. As the beats sped up 'Smack My Bitch Up' kicks in and I am basicly dehydrated at this point. The tune ends and I am waiting for the OOS beats to start but no! Something very familiar starts coming out of the speakers It is the 'Dead Ken Beats' with a really long intro, it only kicked in after like a minute and a half. Bass on this track is out of this world but the sound system itself didn't exactly make it stand out as it should. I might have been drunk but I am pretty sure Maxim did yell Dust Yo'Self on this one.

I am about to die at the front near the mosh pit when I see a disco ball drop behind Liam's gear. It is time for 'Out Of Space'. As soon as the crowd realize which tune this is everyone goes absolutly mental! Everyone starts singing and even after the tune ends everyone goes on for like a minute or maybe even more. Prodigy walk off stage applauding the crowd and soon after you can hear the 'Love Is In The Air' tune and everyone is leaving the venue with smile on their face.

The gig itself was great but I have to complain a bit about it not being loud enuff, and the venue itself wasn't really made for gigs like this, it was too wide and the sound got kinda lost. Maxim and Keef were great and Liam is connecting with the crowd more than he used to. Kieron was great as well and Rob did seem to be really into it but like usually you can't really hear him. Anyways the gig and the whole weekend road trip was money well spent as we had a really good time. And oh yeah almost everyone looks well dressed especially the ladies i am def coming back one day haha!
