Oxegen Festival

by neko:

Saturday, July, 09th 2005 - Ireland

Not a great start to this one. Bombs in London on Thursday, Brixton show obviously cancelled. The last thing I want to do now is travel around all weekend but obviously looking at the Oxegen and T in The Park line ups makes me reconsider.... almost too good to be true.

Prodigy, Kasabian, Green Day, Bravery, Kaiser Chiefs, QOTSA, The Subways and many more.... and that just on the one day.

I'm not going to write a massive review for this weekend as there would be too much to cover. The highlights:

  • being able to watch Kasabian play an acoustic set in front of 50 people in the VIP tent. As a big Kasabian fan that's about as good as it gets really!

  • The Bravery on the second stage are amazing, after their technical  problems at Coachella nice to see them as they should be.

  • Kasabian's full set on the second stage then amazing too. They've just got such good songs, so no matter whether it's acoustic or full on, it'll always be great.

  • Prodigy closing the second stage at Oxegen. I wish I'd be able to express in words how great this show was, but I cannot. I don't know whether it is the fact that it had been four weeks since I'd last seen them or just the Irish thing, but this was better than anything ever. It's not just the new fills, the return of Voodoo People or the new Warning, it's just the overall thing. The Irish shows seem to be unbeatable.

Setlist: Wake Up Intro, Wake Up Call, Their Law, new Warning, Breathe, Spitfire, Back to School, Voodoo People, Firestarter, Action Radar Link, Mindfields
Encore 1: Poison, Smack My Bitch Up
Encore 2: Out Of Space

T in The Park

by neko:

Sunday, July, 10th 2005 - Kinross, Scotland

Similar line up, different day. The day for us starts with a midday flight from Dublin to Glasgow. Lots of band type people on the plane, most of which I don't recognise. Apart from Bravery queuing next to us and Prodigy lurking around as well. Mr Bravery singer is even sat behind us on the flight, uh oh.

Anyways, we get to Glasgow, check into the hotel and grab our rental car to drive to Kinross. The weather is nice and sunny... for a festival in Scotland the most unlikely thing to happen I guess!

Once more a run down of the most memorable moments is all you'll get here:

  • standing in between the main stage and the second stage, Queens of the Stone Age playing to my left, Kaiser Chiefs on my right, having to make a decision on who to go and see (I went for Kaiser Chiefs, they're great!).

  • Lying in the sun, having a drink, trying to convince ourselves we're in Scotland, not in Spain!

  • Kasabian live ...3rd time in 2 days.

  • People from home texting me Liam had been on TV saying he's going to play a new track tonight and then watching the set and realising he'd just been winding people up. It was good anyways ....

Setlist: Wake Up Intro, Wake Up Call, Their Law, new Warning, Breathe, Spitfire, Back to School, Firestarter, Action Radar Link, Mindfields, Voodoo People
Encore 1: Poison, Smack My Bitch Up
Encore 2: Out Of Space

Great weekend....
